Huge quantity of illegally procured PDS rice seized in Bandipora: Police

Srinagar: Police in Bandipora have foiled black marketing of Government rice by seizing a huge quantity of illegally procured government rice, said a police spokesperson.

“Bandipora Police received information that one person namely Muzaffar Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Sayed Wani resident of Nadihal has illegally procured government rice and is repacking it into Apple brand rice bags, so as to sell them in private open market,” the spokesperson said.

“On receipt of this information, a police party from Police Station Aragam led by SHO PS Aragam under the supervision of SSP Bandipora Shri Mohammad Zahid-JKPS raided the location at Nadihal and recovered 26 Quintals of government rice. Officers were also able to recover a stitching machine, weighing machine and some empty packing bags from the spot. However, accused person managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to nab him,” he said.

“In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 12/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Argam. During preliminary investigation, it surfaced that the some FCSCA controlled fair price shop owners were illegally selling the Govt rice to the accused person, who was repacking it into Apple Brand rice bags for further selling it in private market,” he added.
