Srinagar: GoC Victor Force, Maj General Rashim Bali today said that Army and other security forces will always try to make local militants to surrender instead of getting killed in encounters.
Commenting on Shopian encounter, Maj Gen said that all efforts were made to convince the militants to surrender before opening the fire.
“The operation prolonged because we were trying that local terrorists surrender. Our one Jawan got injured only because of that endeavour. However, they decided not to surrender,” he said.
He further said that Army and other security forces want local youth, who have joined terror ranks, to shun violence and live a normal life.
“Through media, we appeal to the parents to convince their wards to surrender and save their lives,” he said.
