Srinagar: Police in a series of actions have arrested eight drug peddlers from Awantipora, Sopore, and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possessions.

A police spokesman said that in Awantipora, police intercepted three persons identified as Tabish Rafiq, Mudasir Ahmad both residents of Namblabal Pampore and Sahil Arshid resident of Kadalbal Pampore near MEI School Pampore.

During checking, 11 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession, said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, in another action, police at Dahwatoo checkpoint intercepted a Safari bearing registration number JK01X-1234 with one person on board identified as Shabir Ahmad Khan resident of Lethpora Awantipora. During checking, 5Kgs of grinded cannabis and 500 grams of charas were recovered from his possession.

“All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” said the spokesman.

In Sopore, police in the jurisdiction of Police Post Watergam intercepted two persons riding on a motorcycle bearing registration number JK05E-0817. They have been identified as Faisal Aijaz resident of Reban Rafiabad and Ishfaq Ahmad Itoo resident of Chijhama Rafiabad. During checking, 05 bottles of Codeine Phosphate and 04 strips of Spasmoproxyvon were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. Motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, said the spokesman.

In Kulgam, at Zig Mode Qazigund on NHW, police intercepted a vehicle Taveera bearing registration No.JK19-0966 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Umer Majid Sheikh resident of Dardgund Qazigund and Umer Farooq resident of Fazalabad Surankot district Poonch, the spokesman said.

He said that during checking, 110 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

“Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated,” said the spokesman.
