NIT Srinagar to be implementing Agency for Design Expertise Scheme

NIT Srinagar to host 5-day conference on nanotechnology from April 7

SRINAGAR: NIT Srinagar will now act as the implementing agency for the scheme “design expertise to Manufacturing MSME sector” of M/o MSME as an MoU has already been signed between M/o MSME and NIT Srinagar and signed by Additional Secretary (Development Commissioner) MSME on behalf of M/o MSME and Director NIT Srinagar on behalf of NIT Srinagar.

In charge MSME DI Srinagar, Saheel Alaqband, said that the objective of scheme is to bring Indian manufacturing sector and Design expertise/ Design fraternity on to a common platform and to provide expert advice and cost effective solution on real time design problems, resulting in new product development, continuous improvement and value addition for existing products including new products.

Alaqband said that the goal is to help MSME manufacturing industries move up the value chain by switching the production mode from original equipment manufacturing to original design manufacturing and hence original brand manufacturing.

“Under this scheme, there is provision of providing financial assistance to MSMEs for engaging design consultants for design intervention (GoI contribution @ 75% for micro, 60% for SMEs for the project range Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh.) and reimbursing 75% of expenses incurred subject to Rs 1.5 lac for final year student project done for MSME s as per scheme guidelines,” he said.

“NIT Srinagar already is having an incubation centre under MSME headed by Dr. Saad Parvez, The Design Clinic Centre for MSMEs of J&K will further strengthen the Industry -academia relationship,” he added.
