Srinagar: A seminary was gutted in a massive blaze in Noorbagh area of Srinagar last night.

Officials said that the fire broke out at Madrassa Islamia Arabia Daru Salaam Baghwanpora Noorbagh Srinagar during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

An official of the seminary said the upper storey of the building and belongings, including furniture and books, were completely destroyed in the fire incident.

He said the prompt action of police and fire and emergency staff with the help of locals however brought the fire under control thereby saving the building from complete damage.

An official said the cause of fire could not be immediately known though locals said it could have been caused by short-circuit.  Police has registered a case in this regard and started investigations.
