Samoon reviews functioning of Women ITI, Polytechnic College in Jammu

JAMMU: Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, today conducted surprise inspection of Women ITI Canal road and Women Polytechnic Shiv Nagar to review functioning of these institutions imparting skill development training to students.

Dr. Samoon was accompanied by Director, Skill Development, Sajjad Hussain Ganaie and Joint Director, Skill Development, Jammu, GM Bhat besides other senior officers.

Principal Secretary interacted with the students and faculty of Government Women ITI, Jammu and enquired from them about the facilities and quality of training being imparted there. He sought innovative suggestions from the students and faculty as well regarding further streamlining of the working of the institute. He asked the students to learn keenly the trades of their choice so that they become job providers instead of job seekers.

While interacting with the Principal of ITI, Rajesh Gupta and other faculty members of the institution, Samoon enquired about the trades and training being provided there. He emphasised upon them to use innovations and in hand training of all the machinery used by the industries outside. He urged them to make the students visit different industrial houses so that they get practical knowledge of working in vogue there.

Samoon directed them to see for options regarding internships of the trainees with the industries so that they are able to learn the trade and see for placements simultaneously. He said that being trained is not enough if it has no relevance with the market needs so the need of the hour is to train students in trades that have maximum relevance and demand among our industrial houses. He said that it would help the trained youth get jobs easily and at good terms.

On the occasion, Director, Skill Development gave a detailed presentation about the working and courses offered by these institutions. He revealed that new courses like Early Childhood Educator, Fashion Design & Technology, Computer Operator & Programming assistant, Computer Hardware & Network Maintenance, Basic Cosmetology, Stenographer & Secretarial Assistant (English), COPA are being offered here. He said that all the courses are having high demand and prospects of employability and entrepreneurship.

Later, Principal Secretary visited the Government Women Polytechnic College, Jammu and interacted with the students. He encouraged the girl students to utilise the opportunity well to make strides in the world of technology and innovations. He asked the students there to be the skill seekers in order to use it in seeking professional roles for them.

Principal Secretary visited the Skill Academy there being run in collaboration with the ICICI Bank. He asked the instructor of the academy to provide practical training to the students besides focussing on quality the theoretical work. He stressed on them to ensure placement of students admitted there at the end of their training session. He asked them to utilise the infrastructure available there to the best so that maximum benefit is ousted out of it.

Principal Secretary visited various sections of the college including labs, classrooms and other machinery kept there.

Meanwhile, Samoon also inaugurated the computer and language lab developed in the college to help development of soft skills among students.
