Advisor Farooq Khan reviews functioning of Social Welfare Deptt

JAMMU: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Ahmad Khan, today reviewed the overall functioning of Social Welfare department in a meeting here at Civil Secretariat, Jammu.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Social Welfare, Bipul Pathak; Director General, Women & Child Development J&K, Mir Tariq Ali; Director Social Welfare, Kashmir, Bashir Ahmad Dar; Director Social Welfare, Jammu, Smita Sethi; Secretary, J&K Socially & Educationally Backward Class Commission, Anil Sharma; Managing Director, Women Development Corporation, J&K, Naheed Soz and representatives from ICDS, Rehabilitation Council, Advisory Board for Welfare of Pahari Speaking People and OBCs.

Mission Director ICPS, Shabnam Kamili participated in the meeting through Video Conferencing from Srinagar.

Advisor urged upon the officers to weed out the cases which have expired or become ineligible for pension due to one reason or other and replace them with the new deserving applicants. He exhorted upon them not to leave any backlog cases for old age, widow or specially abled persons. He asked them to fix a quarterly cycle of 3 months to upload all the cases received and found eligible during this period so that no long pending cases gets accumulated.

Advisor Khan also directed the concerned to work in a mission mode for meeting the targets of scholarships in each category. He asked the officers to simplify the process and make it convenient for the aspiring students to avail the benefits easily. He asked the Directors to carry out administrative inspections and ensure that things for the smooth conduct of official business are in place everywhere.

Advisor asked the officers to provide the prosthetic medical aids to the deserving. He advised them to provide these to students and women on priority.

Regarding the Ladli Beti and Marriage Assistance schemes, Advisor said that these schemes aim at empowering the women and should therefore be implemented taking their needs and aspirations into consideration. He also stressed upon revamping of the skilling model currently in vogue in the department and asked them to realign it on modern lines.

Advisor also took stock of the present status of Shelter Homes, One Stop Centres, juvenile homes, schemes of Women Development Corporation and those of SC/ST/OBC Development Corporations.
