Srinagar: Allege large-scale discrepancies in the final selection list for the recruitment in Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) department, scores of job-aspirants Saturday staged a protest here urging Lieutenant Governor to order a CBI probe into alleged ‘scam’.

Shouting slogans and carrying placards which read “8th pass selected, PhD dropped; paisa do naukri lo”, the aggrieved candidates appeared at Press Enclave here this afternoon and staged demonstrations to protest “fraud” in selection list.

The protesters demanded a CBI probe to unearth fraud into the final selection list in which “school dropouts have been selected and highly qualified candidates dropped for obvious reasons”.

They said the department besides selecting 8th and 9th pass candidates has also paved the way for those whose relatives already work on different posts there.

“We demand an impartial probe by CBI to unearth fraud committed by the higher-ups in the final selection. We urge Lieutenant Governor to take serious cognizance of the issue so that a major scam is unearthed and those fraudulently appointed are dismissed forthwith,” protestors said.

They also threatened to continue their protest in case the administration ignored their demand of a fair probe into alleged fraud in the selection list of drivers and firemen.
