PC condemns ‘police action’ against devotees observing Majlis-E-Hussaini

Srinagar: J&K Peoples Conference has strongly condemned the “highhandedness” of the Baramulla district and police administration in dealing with devotees gathered to observe the Majlis-E-Hussaini (a.s) at Gund Khawaja Qasim, Pattan.

“We had sought prior written permission from the Baramulla district administration to observe Majlis-E-Hussaini (a.s) and assured them of adhering to the SOP’s. The district commissioner had personally assured us that local SDM has been directed to facilitate us. However, after some miscreants tried to create trouble, the district police instead of arresting them beat up and lathi charged the devotees assembled to observe Majlis-E-Hussaini (a.s). If the authorities did not want us to observe Majlis-E-Hussaini (a.s), they could have simply denied permission,” PC senior leader Abid Hussain Ansari said.

Ansari also urged the authorities to investigate violent threats that he has been receiving after he started exposing the malpractices of the local police and district administration.

“The SP and District Commissioner have converted this district into their personal fiefdom. High handedness and unimaginable levels of corruption has become a new normal. Since I have started exposing them, I am receiving life threats. I urge the government to investigate the matter as I believe some senior police officials can go to any extent to settle personal scores with me,” he concluded.
