Srinagar: A young journalist, who was working with English daily Rising Kashmir, died after suffering a heart attack in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

Javid Ahmad, a resident of Watergam Rafiabad, was on his way to Srinagar when he suddenly fell unconscious after suffering a heart attack in Pattan, sources said.

Family sources said that Javid was travelling to Srinagar in his private vehicle to attend a meeting at Rising Kashmir office and after dropping his wife at her school in Sopore, he left towards Srinagar.

“After reaching near Pattan, Javid suffered a massive heart attack. He was spotted by some local journalists in his vehicle near Pattan and they rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival,” KNO quoted family sources as saying.

One of the family members of Javid said that he had got married in April this year and is survived by his wife, parents and two younger siblings.

He said that Javid’s funeral prayers were held at around 4:30 pm in his native village Watergam in Rafiabad and he was later laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard.

The sudden demise of the young journalist has shocked every genuine journalist in Kashmir who have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.

Most of the members of the fraternity have taken to social networking sites to express their shock and sense of loss.

Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) has expressed shock over the sudden demise of Javed Ahmad who was associated with daily ‘Rising Kashmir’.

The incident is not only tragic and shocking for the family of the young journalist but the entire media fraternity in Kashmir is pained at his sudden demise, KEG said in a statement.

KEG has expressed solidarity with the family members of the young journalist and share their pain and agony equally.

Javed Ahmad hails from Watergam area of Rafiabad and had recently got married as well.

Principal Secretary to the Government, Rohit Kansal while expressing shock over the death of young scribe tweeted: “Tragic and Shocking. Such a young and promising professional snatched away in his prime. Our sincere condolences. May God grant eternal peace to his soul and grant his family the fortitude to bear such a huge loss.”

Kashmir Press Club has expressed shock over the demise and expressed solidarity with the bereaved.

Meanwhile, National Conference, Peoples Conference, PDP, JKAP and several other political parties condoled the demise.
