BDC Handwara along with member Sarpanchs tender mass resignation

Handwara: Alleging non-cooperation by various government departments, Chairman Block Development Council, Handwara along with his member Sarpanchs tendered mass resignation.

The resignation letter, a copy of which lies with Kashmir Images, reads, “On 24th of September an important meeting of Block Council Handwara under the Chairmanship of BDC Handwara, Firdous Ahmed Sofi, was convened. The members of the council expressed their displeasure and dissatisfaction over the functioning of the line departments”.

“Since the Council has shown their satisfaction umpteen times but to no avail. So the council has unanimously decided to tender their resignation,” the letter reads.

Chairman BDC Handwara Firdous Ahmad Sofi said that while the government term us as elected representatives of Panchyat Raj Institution (PRIs) but none of the government departments takes us onboard for planning of development works.

“We decided to resign as a mark of protest due to the indifferent attitude of administration towards public grievances and demands of the people,” he added.

“Government has decided to go for fresh elections on vacant Panchayat seats, but it has failed to empower existing members,” he said.

Meanwhile, ADC Handwara Nazir Ahmad said, “I have called these members tomorrow for a meeting to address their grievances.”
