Cocoon Marketing to continue amid Covid-19: Manzoor

JAMMU :  The Sericulture Department has taken far reaching measures to support the Cocoon Rearing families amid the pandemic by continuing Cocoon Marketing in association with local and outside Reelers and extending other facilities.

This was stated by Director Sericulture J&K,  Manzoor Ahmad Qadiri, who was on a tour to the Jammu province for a meeting with Officers of the Department and other stakeholders.  He said that efforts to bring in buyers from outside UT are being taken with the concerned as well as encouraging our Local Cocoon buyers so as to continue the marketing support to the cocoon rearing families during the current pandemic.

He informed that the Department has so far facilitated cocoon procurements of sixty thousand kg worth Rs 5.15 Crore to JKI and completed the targeted procurements as part of the  programme for Jammu Division. The farmers have appreciated & are satisfied by the present system. Talking to Cocoon growers in Sunderbani Market of the Department where a large number of Farmers delegations met him and apprised him of the situation of their sericulture activities as a means of livelihood for them. They demanded for covering them under various welfare schemes of the Department. The Director gave a patient hearing and assured that all farmers will be supported by the Department and directions to District Officers have already been issued for submitting project proposals of different schemes covering the eligible farmers as per the needs of the Sector in their area for welfare of all associated with Sericulture across J&K.
