Srinagar: A youth was arrested after he attempted to snatch service rifle of a CRPF man at Nowhatta area in old city here Friday.

Sources told ‘Kashmir Images’ that 28-years old Tehreem Shabir Dar of Pirbagh area, was arrested and lodged at Nowhatta police station after he tried to snatch service  rifle of Head Constable Samrinder Singh (belt no. 025180661) of 21 battalion CRPF in the area.

They said the youth was overpowered by other troopers deployed for law and order duty in the area and handed over to police.

A senior police official while confirming the incident said, the youth was immediately overpowered by the police and CRPF men present on the spot and later handed over to police.

A formal case (FIR no. 40/2020) under section 392 and 511 Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Police Station Nowhatta and investigations set into motion.

Pankaj Singh, spokesman CRPF also said the youth who made an “unsuccessful bid” to snatch service rifle of a CRPF personal at Nowhatta was arrested by the police. He said the youth was overpowered by security forces deployed on law and order duties in the vicinity and handed over to police.
