Protest against blasphemous video held in Srinagar

Srinagar : A protest demonstration was held here today over the blasphemous remarks made by a person in Jammu in a video that went viral past week, with protestors demanding capital punishment to those involved in it.

Carrying placards which read “Hang the culprit, administration wake up” the slogan shouting protesters under the banner of Tehreek Sout-ul-Awlia, appeared at Lal Chowk here this afternoon and staged protests against the blasphemous video.

Protesters demanded capital punishment to all four accused who have been arrested by police for their complicity in recording and circulating the video.

Protestors said the administration should wake up on the issue and take stern action against the accused for hurting the religious sentiments of a particular community.

“We have assembled here to register our strong protest against a self styled god-man from Jammu, Satpal Sharma and his accomplices for attempting to create communal discord in Jammu and Kashmir,” Mohammad Arfat Riza, one of the representatives of religious body told reporters.

He said the government in order to ensure peace in the Valley should act tough against the accused.

Protestors also appealed the Lieutenant Governor to intervene and make sure no such incidents having potential to heat-up communal uprising in Jammu and Kashmir take place in future.
