DDC Anantnag kick-starts Rainbow Trout Seed stocking in Pahalgam

ANANTNAG: In order to replenish the livestock and to augment fish production, District Development Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, K K Sidha today kick started rainbow trout seed stocking in Nallah Lidder at Pahalgam.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that seed stocking in Nallah Lidder would be a watershed to usher a blue revolution in the district since the fact that the district has a huge potential for cold water fisheries besides it would also provide a sustainable means of livelihood for people.

He said that the shift towards fish farming is a way towards doubling the farmers income and appealed to the educated youth to come forward and start their fish farms under various credit linked schemes of the Government.

The DDC said that during the current fiscal, despite COVID-19 containment restrictions so far 267 permits stand issued while as on the developmental scenario about 2.50 lac seeds have been distributed among private entrepreneurs of fisheries department.

He said a record trout seed production of 4 lac from trout hatchery Panzet has been accomplished that shall eventually lead to blue revolution in the district.

Director Fisheries Mohammad Amin, Joint Director Fisheries, Chief Project Officer Kokernag, Deputy Director Fisheries, Assistant Director Fisheries besides others were present on the occasion.
