Labour deptt launches registration drive for labourers

JAMMU: Labour department has launched a mission mode project for registration of labourers under building and other construction workers welfare act, 1996.

“With the motive to penetrate the benefits offered by the labour welfare board to the ground level genuine construction workers, labour department initiated the mission mode registration drive to cover the leftover construction workers,” an official communiqué stated.

In this regard, the Deputy Labour Commissioner, Jammu, Kanta Devi accompanied by Assistant Labour Commissioner, Jammu, Devia Nanda and other Labour Officials visited the construction site at multi level parking Indira Chowk and interacted with the construction workers to make them aware about the various financial assistances offered by the department and encouraged them to come forward for active registration.

The workers were sensitized about the digital / online portal and were urged to use digital tools for registration and availing the financial assistance for covid relief, education assistance for their children, medical assistance, disability assistance and others.

Also, the workers were urged to follow the norms of social distancing and encourage the use of hand sanitizers & masks to combat the menace of corona virus.
