Khan stresses for highlighting achievements of local sports persons

SRINAGAR : Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today took stock of ongoing works here at Bakhshi Stadium and Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Stadium.

At Bakhshi Stadium, Advisor Khan directed the concerned to set weekly targets for the executing agency to speed up the ongoing works and compensate the days lost during COVID-19 pandemic.

The stadium, located in the centre of Srinagar city, is undergoing massive renovation being executed by the National Project Construction Corporation Limited with an estimated cost of Rs 40.85 crore.

The Advisor was briefed about the progress of works by the Executive Engineer Sports Council and the representatives of National Project Construction Corporation (NPCC).

Later, the Advisor also inspected SK Indoor Stadium where he took  stock of the renovation works and inspected different sections.

He was briefed about the rock climbing wall being constructed in the stadium premises and the upgradation of Saifud Din Sports Club.

On the occasion, Advisor Khan directed the executing agency to build three rock climbing walls with varied heights and width in accordance with the need of beginners, practicing players and for competition events.

He also stressed on preserving the aesthetic environs in the stadiums by providing traditional touch to the existing or under renovation buildings.

The Advisor was accompanied by Secretary Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Sarmad Hafeez; Director General Youth Services and Sports, Saleem Ur Rehman; Secretary J&K Sports Council, Naseem Choudhary and other concerned.

Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today maintained that the achievements of local sports players should be highlighted so that they act as youth icons for aspiring players of Jammu and Kashmir.

He made these remarks while chairing a review meeting to discuss functioning of the Youth Services and Sports Department and J&K Sports Council here at the Civil Secretariat today.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Sarmad Hafeez; DG YSS, Salem ur Rehman; Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nasem Choudhary, representatives of National Project Construction Corporation Limited and other concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, Advisor Khan asked YSS and JKSC to identify local players with achievements in their respective fields and to utilize them so that youth would be attracted towards sports.

He underscored the need to encourage outstanding players from J&K by highlighting their achievements.“These local players would be J&K’s ambassadors and would also serve as youth icons for budding players of J&K,” Advisor Khan said.

He impressed upon the officers to come up with a partnership plan with local football or other sports clubs so that the government infrastructure and facilities would be offered to these clubs to hone and tab the local talent across J&K.

On the occasion, Advisor Khan directed DG YSS to provide district-wise details of all projects under the supervision of the directorate so that works would be prioritized accordingly and  finished  on time.

The meeting also discussed the renovation-cum-upgradation works of Bashshi Stadium, SK Indoor Stadium, Gindun Park Raj Bagh and other projects in J&K.

The Advisor directed the concerned executing agencies to finish the projects within a given time frame so that the sporting facilities would be made available to players and youth alike.
