National Doctors’ Day: J&KSLSA conducts “Online Talk & Commemoration Programme”

JAMMU: Under the visionary guidance of Chief Justice Gita Mittal, Patron-in-Chief J&K SLSA and the dynamic supervision of   Justice Rajesh Bindal, Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA, “National Doctors’ Day” was observed by J&K SLSA today, in conjunction with the theme of the day “Lessen the mortality of COVID-19”.

The day was commemorated by J&K SLSA by organizing an Online Talk & Commemoration Programme in association with Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy in recognition of Commitment of Medical Heroes in healing communities and providing selfless service and health care”.

The Online Talk programme/Webinar was organized to extend sincere appreciation and gratitude ‘to our dedicated Doctors and all Health Care Workers for their tireless efforts and commitment in healing individuals and communities on all days and especially during the time of crisis as the present one owing to the COVID-19 Pandemic.’

The Talk Programme invited participation of Legal Services Authorities at District level, Judicial Officers, Retainer Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers of the UTs of J&K and Ladakh.

Dr.Sanjay Kumar Bhasin, Professor & HOU Surgery, GMC Jammu; Dr.S.Muhammad Salim Khan, Professor & Head Department of Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar and Dr.Tsering Morup, Anaesthetist Consultant, S.N.Hospital Leh were the resource persons in the Talk Programme. They highlighted the roles and responsibilities entrusted on the medical profession.

The proceedings of the programme were coordinated by Sh. M.K.Sharma, Member Secretary, J&K SLSA and Sh. Rajeev Gupta, Director, J&K Judicial Academy.

In his key note address, M.K Sharma underlined the relevance of celebrating the National Doctors’ Day on the 1st of July every year as a symbol of respect and tribute to the selfless contributions and services of Dr. B.C.Roy, a noted Physician whose birth and death anniversary fall on the day and as a gesture of gratitude towards Doctors across the country.

He also underscored the importance of observing the day as an awareness campaign for sensitizing people across the length and breadth of the nation about the role, importance and responsibilities of the health care sector and the corresponding gratuitous duty expected to be exhibited in return during acceptance of such services.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar Bhasin, deliberated upon the critical aspect of the issues confronting the medical profession and urged the undertaking of timely and necessary steps for resuscitating the ailing system at the earliest. He also underlined the importance of adopting a zero tolerance policy against acts of violence upon the medical professionals.

Dr.S. Muhammad Salim Khan, who is also the nodal officer COVID-19, GMC Srinagar applauded the dedicated efforts of Doctors and Health Care Workers in the fight against the deadly Pandemic. He sensitized the participants about the various aspects related to the life threatening epidemic and advised series of precautionary measures that are required to be taken to avoid and deal with the lethal disease. Dr.Tsering Morup reflected upon the role of Doctors as frontline warriors during distress times as the present one and beseeched a close association of Judiciary, Police and other essential services to fight the crisis situation. He also flagged the importance of special incentives for front line warriors for the purpose of ensuring safety and evoking enthusiasm amongst them.

The Online Talk programme received an enthusiastic response from the participants who had an interactive question answer session with the resource persons.
