Kulgam: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have solved an ATM loot case and arrested four accused persons. The stolen money was also recovered.

A police spokesman in a statement said that during the intervening night of June 19-20, burglars dismantled the ATM of State Bank of India near Fruit Mandi Kulgam and used a vehicle to transport it to a safer place.

Police said that the next day, Police Station Kulgam on a specific input recovered the damaged ATM in a deserted area of Laroo in District Kulgam.

Acting on a tip-off, police said that a manhunt was launched and burglars identified as Liyaqat Ahmad Shiekh, son of Muhammad Afzal Shiekh, Umer Akbar Shiekh, son of Muhammad Akbar, Yawar Ahmad Lone, son of Mubarakh Ahmad, all residents of Khasipora Shopian and Junaid Bashir Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad of Nonmie, Yaripora were arrested.

Police said that 8,65,800 was recovered from the damaged ATM with the help of experts from JK Bank and SDRF.

“A case under FIR number 121/2020 under section 457, 380 IPC stands registered in Police Station Kulgam”, police said.
