Srinagar: Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore area of Baramulla district on Thursday, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Hardshiva area of Sopore in north Kashmir Thursday morning after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who then retaliated.
Two militants have been killed so far, the official said, adding that the operation was still in progress.
In the wake of encounter, authorities also suspended mobile Internet services in entire police district Sopore as a precautionary measure, said an official.
Meanwhile, another gunfight broke out between militants and the security forces in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday, officials said.
They said that the gunfight broke out after police and the security forces launched a search operation in the Chewa Ullar area of Tral.
Details of this gunfight were awaited while this report was being written.
