DDC Pulwama distributes 21 Motorized Tricycles among specially-abled persons

PULWAMA: District Development Commissioner Pulwama Dr. Raghav Langer here today provided motorised tricycles to 21 specially-abled persons belonging to BPL category and having more than 40% disability in lower limbs.

The distribution camp was organized by Social Welfare Department, at Marakaz -e- Falah-e-Itfaal, Patalbagh Pulwama.

DSWO Pulwama, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, TSWO Pulwama, Superintendent MFI, Patalbagh besides all officials of Mahila Shakti Kendra and district and tehsil Social welfare offices were present on the occasion.

While interacting with media persons, DDC complimented the Social Welfare Department for organizing the distribution camp for Specially Abled Persons. He said that the motorised Tricycles   will empower the people with special needs and would include them in the mainstream life.

He added that the mobility of the specially challenged people would be pivotal in earning sustainable livelihoods without inconvenience.

DDC hailed the functioning of the Social Welfare Department and said the department has worked tirelessly during the pandemic and provided pension to 40239 pensioners in a time bound manner. He further added that department has sanctioned 4808 new pension cases during lockdown, thereby reducing pendency to zero.

DDC also appreciated the efforts of department in reaching out to the marginalised and downtrodden sections of the society during lockdown. Moreover, free masks were distributed among the participants, attendants and employees of the department.

It is pertinent to mention that the Motorised Tricycles were sponsored by J&K Rehabilitation Council a Government organisation which is at forefront in the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
