Health worker injured as militants open fire at police in Kulgam

Srinagar: A civilian was injured when militants fired upon a police party in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday, police said.

Militants fired upon a police party near Yaripora Chowk in the south Kashmir district in the afternoon, a police official said.

He said a civilian was injured in the firing and he has been taken to a hospital.

The injured civilian, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad, a resident of Wanpoh, is a basic health worker at Yaripora Sub District Hospital, a local news agency quoted Block Medical Officer Kulgam as saying.

He has been shifted to GMC Anantnag where his condition remains critical, the BMO added.

A local news agency quoted the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar as saying that the militants travelling in a vehicle opened fire at a police party.

Meanwhile, police and army have cordoned off the area and started searches in the area to nab the attackers.
