Makkah, May 23: Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be performed at Islam’s two holiest mosques – the grand mosque in Makkah that houses the Kaabah and the Prophet’s (PBUH) Mosque in Madina – even as they remain closed to the public. The prayers will be performed in “full observance of preventive measures and health precautions”, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Saturday.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, gave the approval for the prayers, SPA quoted the General President of the Two Holy Mosques, Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman bin Abdulaziz Al Sudais, as saying.

“This decision shows how keen the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is to revive this great ritual,” said Dr Al Sudais.

The prayers will not be performed at other mosques. Muezzins will chant the Eid Takbeers through loudspeakers from dawn till the Eid prayer time.

Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers during Ramadan were performed at the Two Holy Mosques without worshippers in attendance.
