SRINAGAR, APRIL 20: Over 30 movement passes issued to officials and others were cancelled Monday in Srinagar.

These were cancelled after being found to be misused during District Magistrate Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary’s surprise inspection around the city.

Many vehicles were also seized on the occasion. The strict action was taken for violating terms on which movement passes were issued to their owners.

Heads of departments these officials belong to were later written and have been asked to explain misuse of passes issued to their staff members.

Meanwhile the DM has issued strict warnings against violations of restrictions as ordered in the district. He has directed for strict implementation and adherence to all restrictions ordered until May 3. He said strict action under law will be taken against whoever is found to be violating the orders.

The DM also visited areas notified as COVID-19 containment zones and inspected response mechanism set up there. He sought a detailed brief from concerned nodal officers about surveillance activities going on in these areas and provision of essential services and commodities to residents. He also interacted with zonal committees of these areas and local representatives who are members of these committees.

He also inspected the enforcement of restrictions as ordered in these areas. Speaking on the occasion he thanked the people of these areas for adhering to guidelines as given to them and restrictions as ordered in their areas.

Dr Shahid directed the concerned nodal officers to ensure all households of their respective areas are provided with all kinds of routine needs at their doorsteps.

He also reiterated instructions to agencies to ensure strict enforcement restrictions on movement and public activities in all red zone areas. He directed to ensure that no one – except designated officials on duty there – is allowed to move in or out of these areas.

It is notable that a comprehensive apparatus has been put in place in all areas notified as COVID-19 red zones in Srinagar. This includes a well-planed mechanism under which all essential services and commodities are provided to residents of these areas. This among other arrangements is to ensure minimisation of inconveniences due to restrictions as ordered there.
