JAMMU: Brig. (Retd.) Harcharn Singh, Director, Sainik Welfare Board today called on the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu here at the Raj Bhavan and briefed him about the implementation of various schemes for promoting the welfare of all serving personnel and ex-Servicemen, besides activities undertaken by the Sainik Board to bolster the efforts of the Civil Administration in mitigating the spread of COVID-19.

He informed the Lt Governor about the directions received from the Ministry of Defence to mobilize the ex-Servicemen towards the efforts of the Government for management and containment of coronavirus. “A list of the volunteers has been handed over to the Districts Administration with phone numbers and contact details”, he added.

He also briefed the Lt Governor about the volunteer work being done by ex-Servicemen especially for the welfare of poor labourers from outside in the UT and apprised him about the drive undertaken by the Sainik Board in collaboration with various NGOs to collect donations for J&K Relief Fund and PM Cares Fund.

The Lt Governor appreciated the work being done by ex-Servicemen in alleviating the sufferings of people due to COVID-19.
