JAMMU, MARCH 17: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today chaired a meeting here to review the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes Development Corporation.

Managing Director JKSCSTBCDC, Dr Bharat Bhushan; OSD to Advisor, Muhammad Ashraf Hakak and other concerned were also present in the meeting.

The Managing Director JKSCSTBCDC apprised the meeting that the Corporation has provided loans to the people of the targeted groups during the current financial year to the tune of Rs 27 crore, which is the highest ever achievement of the Corporation in a single financial year.

He further informed that the Corporation has recovered loans to a tune of 96 per cent (Rs 1079.94 lakh) whereas total recovery till date since inception of the Corporation is about 85 per cent (Rs 8242.92 lakh).

The Advisor took detailed review of the loans advanced, recovery position, overall strength of the staff of the Corporation and position of accounts.

The Advisor appreciated that in pursuance to the direction given by him in the Annual General Meeting of the Corporation held in Srinagar on October 19, 2019, the Corporation has completed the audit of accounts from 1997-98 to 2017-18 and accounts for 2018-19 have also been compiled.

Advisor Khan while reviewing the constitution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation directed to immediately take up with the Apex Corporations regarding nomination of their Corporations’ directors so that Board of Directors meeting can be held in the near future.

He directed the MD of the Corporation to submit the detailed lists of the beneficiaries assisted with details of activity and quantum of loans.

The Advisor also appreciated the efforts of the Corporation in providing loans to record number of persons since formation of the Union Territory. He directed the Corporation to come up with a Coffee Table Book on its achievements for wider publicity so that message would reach to the target group population.

He also reviewed the loan facilities for pursing higher studies, and exhorted upon the officers to publicize the scheme so that more students can take advantage of the scheme at nominal rate of interest and pursue their studies in the country and abroad.

Later, Advisor also chaired a meeting of Social Welfare Board (SWB) to review its functioning.

Executive Director, SWB, Bureeda Majid and other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.

The Advisor was informed that around 616 crèche centers through different NGOs are working across J&K wherein target group of 0 to 6 years are being imparted nutrition and quality education.

The meeting was informed that Social Welfare Board is running Swadhar Greh homes for homeless and destitute in three districts of J&K.

The Advisor directed the concerned officers to implement the Swadhar Greh Scheme in all districts of the UT.

The meeting was informed that 26 counselling centers are being run by the Central Social Welfare Board in J&K where counselling and sensitization on social issues like dowry is provided.
