He said the police based on complaint registered an FIR No. 16/2020 under sections 420,379 and 120-B at police station Parimpora and started investigation in this direction.

Chowdhary said that a total of nine vehicles were recovered from five arrested persons who were apprehended by the police in connection with interstate car theft case.

“Five persons involved in illegal selling of SUV’s and cars in Narbal Parimpora area who used to sell these stolen cars at much lesser prices than actual cost of vehicles by way of luring and duping people of their hard earned legitimate money,” said the DIG.

He further said nine vehicles stolen from different states of India were recovered from Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla and Bandipora districts. DIG said the modus operandi of the car lifters was to lift vehicles then identify another vehicle of same model, paint them with different color with duplicate registration number plate fixed on them.

“The process of changing appearance of stolen cars was to make them look alike genuine vehicles. During investigation it came to fore that vehicle with same registration number plates were tempered, they were also getting duplicate RC’s to misguide the law enforcing agencies,” he added.

He identified the accused as Mohammad Ayub Dar alias Ayub Ganastan son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar of Ganastan Sumbal, Mohammad Ayub Khan son of Mohammad Abdullah of Gondipora Beerwah Budgam, Sameer Ahmad son of Mohammad Ashraf Wani of Ohangam Beerwah Budgam, Liyaqat Ali Dar son of Mohammad Yusuf Dar of Channabal Pattan and Mohamad Yunis Rather son of Abdul Majeed Rather of Nasrullah Pora Budgam.
