4 children among 5 dead as boulder hits house in Udhampur

Udhampur, Mar 10: Five members, including four children, of a family died and another was injured when a boulder hit a house in Udhampur district early on Tuesday, officials said.

The incident occurred at Barmean village in Ramnagar area, following which the house totally collapsed and five family members were buried, according to officials.

Locals and police rushed to the spot and recovered five bodies, and an injured person — Raj Singh – who has been hospitalised, the officials said.

DDC Udhampur Dr. Piyush Singla along with SSP monitored the whole rescue operation, an official press release said. It said DDC also announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 20 lakh in favour of the deceased.

While interacting with media-persons, DDC said that a boulder hit the house of Raj Singh, son of Munshi Ram at ward number 5 Upper Barmeen block Ghordi Udhampur due to which house collapsed and o5 persons of a family were killed on spot while one person namely Raj Singh injured and is shifted to District Hospital Udhampur and all medical facilities are being provided to the injured by the Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as 35-years-old Sharda Devi, wife of Raj Singh, his three daughters 16-years-old Aarti Devi, 14-years-old Anu Devi, and 12-years-old Swani Devi; and his 10-years-old son Pawan Singh.
