Dir Tourism reviews preparations for Khelo-India Winter Games

SRINAGAR, MARCH 05: Director Tourism Kashmir Nisar Ahmad Wani today visited Gulmarg to take stock of the arrangements put in place for the first Khelo India Winter Games being held in the ski resort.

The mega event, which will begin from March 07 and conclude on March 11, is being organized by J&K State Sports Council in collaboration with Youth Services and Sports Department, Winter Games Association of J&K, J&K Tourism Department and Gulmarg Development Authority, under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Development Authority, Inam ul Haq, Deputy Director Tourism Kashmir (Publicity), Ideel Saleem, Assistant Director Tourism Gulmarg, Nasir Mahmood Shah, besides other officers of the Cable Car Corporation accompanied the Director.

During the visit, Director Tourism inspected the Ski Shop Gulmarg and took stock of the ski equipment available there. He also interacted with the skiers who had turned up in large numbers for the day-long selection trials being held for the various events in the winter games.

He also visited Gulmarg Golf Club to take stock of arrangements for the main function where an internet facilitation centre has been set up for the media persons.

Director Tourism emphasized upon the officers to work in close coordination to make the Winter Games at Gulmarg a grand success.

Stalls and sale counters displaying Kashmiri Handicrafts, Handlooms, Kashmiri cuisine and Adventure Sports equipment will also be set up besides cultural evenings will be part of the mega event for the entertainment of participants.

Over 800 players from different parts of the country are expected to participate in around 30 events like Snow Skiing, Night Skiing, Snowboarding, Cross country, Snow show, Snow Cycling and other events.

The inaugural function for the event will be held on March 07, 2020. An evening ski demonstration has been slated for 6th March, 2020.
