FDA conducts Food Safety Audit of Sweet, Meat Shops in Jammu

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 27: Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), J&K in collaboration with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has conducted Food Safety Audit of Sweet and Meat Shops in two capital cities of UT of J&K.

The Audit was started on February 16 2020 in the backdrop of novel food borne illnesses being reported from different parts of the world.

During the audit, a total of 40 establishments, 20 each of Meat and Sweet shops were audited in the capital cities of Jammu & Srinagar to examine the quality and assess the food safety hygiene practices being observed by the owners.

Food Safety Audits are part of the continued efforts of compliance of Food Safety and Standards (Food Safety Auditing) Regulations, 2018. These audits will give an index of improvements to be made on part of FBO’s with respect to schedules of the Meat and Sweets food business sectors and ensure safe and wholesome food to the general public.

The issue of hygiene and food safety practices adopted in the meat and sweets/confectionary sector has become more significant, at a time when the world is dealing with the novel food borne illnesses.

Satisfactory Audits will lead to less frequent regulatory inspections by Central or State Licensing Authority except the regulatory sampling. This will also strengthen food safety surveillance system and encourage self-compliance while at the same time assuring safe food to the consumers.
