Srinagar, Feb 15: Commending the J&K’s winter sports contingent for its superb performance at Winter National Games, the Winter Games Association of J&K has said that they expect a still better showing at a mega winter sports event under Khelo India being held at Gulmarg in coming days.

A meeting of the Winter Games Association of J&K (WGAJK) was held here today which expressed satisfaction at the performance of the J&K contingent at Winter National Games held at Auli Uttarakhand recently. The J&K team returned with four gold, one silver and six bronze medals in different events held during the nationals, which is really appreciable and has done us proud, WGAJK said in a press release today.

“Every single player of the team who bagged a medal as well as those who participated in the events merit our appreciation and applause,” WGAJK said, adding that the contribution of the officials who accompanied the team is equally acknowledged and appreciated.

Welcoming the decision to hold what it terms would be a mega event under the Khelo India initiative at Gulmarg in the first week of March, WGAJK said it is hopeful of the players from the state not only participating in the event but also putting up a stellar performance. “We also hope that the winter sports activities in J&K will continue to attract the kind of governmental focus and investment it deserves,” the press release said.
