According to them, Nusrat, a mother of two infants, was allegedly murdered by her in-laws at their home in November last year for failing to fulfill their demand of dowry.

Protesters asserted that police after lodging FIR was under constant pressure to close the case as the accused had allegedly destroyed all vital evidences.

“My young niece who was married to one Mehrajudin Trag was burnt alive by her in-laws including her husband after sprinkling kerosene on her body on November 03 last year after she outrightly refused to fulfill their demand of dowry,” said maternal uncle of victim, who identified himself as Mohammad Shafi Naik.

He said after burning Nusrat alive, her husband Mehrajdin Trag pretended to be innocent and whatever happened was just an incident.

“After committing heinous crime, he pretended to be innocent and told the victim that he will get her treated at India’s top hospitals. However my grievously injured niece succumbed at SHMS hospital after battling for life for many days,” he said.

Naik said police has arrested Nusrat’s husband her brother-in-law and mother-in-law in connection with the murder and all of them are detained at Central jail Srinagar.

Protesters demanded that the accused should not be given any concession given the heinous crime they have committed.
