Central University Jammu signs MoU with JKPCB

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 05: To meet the goals of National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), Central University of Jammu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board.

The MoU will enable the varsity to create instrumentation facility for the programme at its campus. The JKPCB funded facility will include high end instruments for conducting source appointment studies in J&K.

Under the mentorship of Prof. Sachidanand Tripathi, IITK (National coordinator under NCAP), Dr. Shweta Yadav (nodal faculty under NCAP) will be conducting the mentioned study in collaboration with JKPCB. In phase I, Jammu will be covered and in phase II, similar study will be conducted in Srinagar.

The MoU was signed by B.M. Sharma, Member Secretary, JKPCB and Dr. Ravi Kumar, Registrar, CU Jammu in presence of Suresh Chugh, Chairman, JKPCB and Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, CU Jammu and other officials and faculty members.

In the landmark development, Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) nominated Central University Jammu as technical partner to JKPCB.

A tripartite MoU between MoEFCC, JKPCB and CU Jammu already exists since 6th June, 2019. The study will initially be for one year and can be extended.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman PCB Suresh Chugh said that this will be a first of its kind study in J&K and it will enable detailed analysis of the pollution caused by diesel, petrol vehicles and other agencies and also suggest measures to mitigate it.

Prof. Aima VC CU Jammu said that it will enhance the capability of the University and also give exposure to students to deal with practical air pollution problems.
