DC Kargil takes stock of ongoing work on Parkachik Khawos Irrigation Canal

KARGIL AUGUST 02: Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary on Thursday took stock of the ongoing works on the construction of water conductor tunnel of the Parkachik Khawos irrigation canal.

The 900 metre span tunnel is being constructed at cost of Rs 720 lacs.

The engineers of Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Kargil informed the DC that work on the construction of 18 kilometers canal has been completed up to 12 kilometers and the remaining works including the construction of tunnel is expected to be completed by next year.

The engineers further informed that the irrigation canal would provide irrigational facilities to 2262 hectares of command area encompassing Parkachik, Parkachik Goma, Thulus, Pursa, Namsuru, Khawos, Kochik and other adjoining villages

The DC directed the concerned engineers to complete the remaining work within the stipulated period of time. He also stressed on proper maintenance of quality and quantity parameters in execution of the project.

Earlier, the DC also met a number of public delegations a Shagar, Lungmur Himiling and other adjoining villages of Zanskar Sub Division where people projected their issues and demands which included the augmentation of water and power supply, repair of irrigation canals and other related demands.

The DC assured the delegations that all their genuine demands would be given due consideration and steps for fulfillment would be taken up in a phased manner.

Meanwhile, the DC also visited Summer Grazing Camp at Shapath Nallah and took stock of its overall functioning. Responding to the requirement of livestock shelter shed and staff quarters, allotment of land and grazing rights at Shapath Nallah, the DC assured the concerned that appropriate measures would be taken in this regard.

CMO, CEO, Executive Engineer I&FC, ACD, District Social Welfare Officer, AD Tourism, AD Information besides other concerned officers accompanied the DC during the tour.
