DDC reviews functioning of Panchayats in Budgam

BUDGAM, JULY 24: The District Development Commissioner (DDC), Budgam, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar today chaired a meeting with Sarpanchs and Panchs to discuss issues related to smooth functioning of Panchayats in Budgam.

Among others, the meeting was attended by ADC, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, JD Planning Rafiq Ahmad, SE Hydraulics, SDM Beerwah, DPO, CAO, Ex.Exn Irrigation, PHE, PDD and all BDOs and other concerned.

While elaborating on the empowerment of PRIs under the 14th FC, the DDC said a cumulative and effective role of all stakeholders is need of the hour in formulating the plan for equitable spending of Rs 12.17 crore across the district in the interest of public welfare.

She stressed that works to be undertaken under the 14th FC shall include sanitation, construction of playfields, public parks, link roads, Panchayat Ghar renovations, installation of solar, street lights, maintenance irrigation canals, opening of public libraries, preservation of water bodies and development of wastelands and Kahcharai.

She maintained that social audit teams have been already constituted to check proper utilization of funds and warned no irregularities shall be accepted.

Meanwhile, DPO Budgam suggested that special exigency funds be earmarked to stock pipes, wires, sports kits and sought support for common resolution and consensus among all members of Gram Sabha.

DDC Budgam said that Sarpanchs and Panchs are an important part of the democracy and these public representatives strengthen the third tier of government.

She further stressed on maintaining close coordination and cooperation between line Departments and Panchayat functionaries so that fruitful results are yielded in the larger interest of Panchayat halqas in the district.
