In the ensuing gunbattle, one Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed, he said, adding that he has been identified as Adnan Ali Channa, a resident of Arampora Baramulla.

Police spokesman said he was involved in several acts of militancy, “including the killing of a civilian Arjumand Majeed Bhat in Jatti Baramulla in March 2019, and firing on a civilian Feroz Ahmad Gojree of Zaloora Sopore in May 2019.”

Police said today’s encounter was “a clean operation and no collateral damage happened during the encounter”.

Incriminating material including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other cases, spokesman said, while requesting the people to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.

Meanwhile partial shutdown was observed in Old town area of Barmulla after reports about the killing of Channa, a native of the area reached here.

Earlier in wake of gunfight authorities had suspended mobile Internet services in parts of Sopore while the Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Ashiq Hussain Lily in a statement ordered closure of Degree College Sopore as a “precautionary measure”.
