Jal Shakti Abhiyan launched at Bandipora

BANDIPORA, JULY 15: The district administration Bandipora on Monday launched Jal Shakti Abhiyan in the district with an aim to make coordinated efforts to conserve water.

In this regard, the administration organised a rally to create awareness about the importance of water conservation.

The rally was flagged of from Girls Higher Secondary School Bandipora and was attended by students from various schools and colleges of the district. It culminated at SK Stadium Bandipora wherein a seminar was organised regarding the conservation of water.

Speakers stressed on conservation of water resources by different scientific and traditional techniques. They stressed on water conservation through rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, re-use of water, bore-well recharge structure. Speakers also stressed on the plantation of more trees in higher reaches to avoid soil erosion.

Later, District Development Commissioner chaired a meeting of officers to devise an action plan for the implementation Jal Shakti Abhiyan in the district.

The meeting was attended by Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner Development Jahangir Ahmad, DPO Bandipora and other senior officers of the district.

The meeting discussed the short term and long term steps to be taken to conserve water in the district.

It was given out that Jal Shakti Abhiyan is a collaborative effort of various Ministries of the Government of India and State Governments, being coordinated by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) under Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.

The campaign will run through citizen participation during the monsoon season, from July to 15th September 2019.
