Sopore traders, fruit growers protest against highway restrictions

Sopore, July 12: Demanding revocation of restrictions on the national highway, members of various local organizations along with scores of fruit traders staged a sit-in protest at Asia’s second largest Fruit Mandi Sopore on Friday.

The members who had assembled under the banner of Coordination Committee Sopore were associated with the organizations including Traders Federation Sopore, Civil Society Sopore, Economic Alliance Sopore, Northern Pharmaceutical Distributers Association and Industrial Estate Sopore.

President Fruit growers and dealers association Sopore, Fayaz Ahmad Malik said that due to the restrictions on public transport, the transportation of early varieties of Apples, other fruits and vegetables remains badly affected as trucks remain halted on the national highway for many days.

Javid Ahmad Bhat, President Industrial estate Sopore said that they were not against Amarnath Yatra but the government should have set up a mechanism in order to ensure a hassle free traffic movement on the highway.
