DG Social Welfare reviews functioning of Dept at Shopian

SHOPIAN, JULY 04: Director General Social Welfare Kashmir Rukhsana Gani, who was on a daylong visit to Shopian held a detailed meeting to review the performance of various social security schemes of the department which includes Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), National Social Assistance Program (NSAP), State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS), Scholarship Schemes etc.

District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Mohammad Shafait, AD Schemes Najeeb Latif, TSWO Farhana Tak besides officials of district and tehsil office, MFI Pinjoora, Social Welfare Centres and Cottage Industry Centre were present in the meeting.

The meeting was informed that 7168 beneficiaries are being provided pensions under Integrated Social Security Scheme.

While expressing satisfaction about the implementation of various schemes of the department, the Director-General directed holding of awareness cum registration camps tehsil-wise to enroll the left outs. She exhorted upon the concerned to ensure frequent physical verification of beneficiaries to weed out fake cases.

Responding to the issues of timely promotion of officials, fixing of seniority of employees appointed under PM’s Package, filling up of vacant post and lack of basic infrastructure in District & Tehsil offices, she informed that DLPC shall be held in a months time for promotion of eligible officials. She added that seniority and dearth of staff and infrastructure related issues are being looked into and necessary measures will be taken.

Later, the Director General took stock of facilities being provided at Bal Ashram Pinjoora. She inspected the sleeping halls, dining hall, kitchen and washrooms and also reviewed the availability of dietary items and non-dietary items. She also held motivational talks with students and called upon them to complete their education and contribute to society in a meaningful way.

She was apprised that a slew of measures including tin sheet fencing, ground levelling, construction of hamam, extra washrooms and storeroom, establishment of computer lab and library besides creation of a dedicated 63 KV electric substation have been taken up to ensure availability of basic facilities for the students.

On the occasion, the Director General provided one sports kit to the students of home and one motorised tricycle to an identified beneficiary having disability in lower limbs.
