UDHAMPUR, JUNE 29: Union Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh today visited Udhampur to review the progress of Devika project and also attended pooja ceremony organized by Sadhu Samaj at Devika ghat under National River conservation plan (NRCP) Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change GOI.

He also inspected ongoing works of Mega Devika prestigious Project here today.

While addressing the gathering, the Union Minister said government is working with new ideas for the welfare of the people and development of the nation. Union Minister also said government is committed to equitable development of all sections of the society. In this regard the central government took several initiatives to address the hopes and aspiration of people and launched many centrally sponsored schemes for the welfare of general public, he added.

Emphasizing on creating mass awareness about various Centrally Sponsored Schemes, Dr Singh asked the district administrations to extend their reach to the people at every nook and corner for the effective implementation of welfare schemes at the grassroots level. He exhorted upon the general public to come forward and avail maximum benefits of these schemes.

Referring scores of achievements of the present Government, Dr Singh said that various initiatives have been taken for the development of the district. While highlighting the importance of Devika the Union Minister said that Devika is the elder sister of Ganga, a sacred holy rivulet in Udhampur Town.

Stressing on the Devika River Rejuvenation project, he said that 186.74 Crore has been sanctioned for this ambitious project. He also stressed on the Devika pollution abatement project and said that after River Ganga it will be the first river of North India whose rejuvenation plan has been made on the pattern of River Ganga Cleaning Project under NRCP. He said that it was the first time that one of the rivers of the Jammu and Kashmir would be rejuvenated on the lines of River Ganga.

Stressing that the ongoing developmental pace of work is one of the top priority of the government, he further said that different ongoing major projects should not stop due to lack of funds and assured of all possible help from his side. Dr. Singh directed the executing agencies to start work simultaneously and asked them to use local material for aesthetic look.

Later, the Union Minister convened a meeting with District officers of different departments to review the sector wise progress of projects under execution in Udhampur district at Dak Bunglow. During the meeting, DDC, Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla informed the meeting about various ongoing projects and said that in Devika Project ½ KM pipe has been laid and for month of July 5Km pipe laying target is set. Keeping in view the future demand Union Minister proposed some modifications and asked concerned agency to incorporate these changes. Dr Singh appreciated the district administration for effective monitoring and implementation of the prestigious Devika project.
