EC Agri, DC flag-off women farmers for exposure tour

KARGIL, JUNE 28: Executive Councillor for Agriculture, Muhammad Ali Chandan along with Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary today flagged-off a group of women farmers to Kashmir for exposure and training on latest interventions in Sericulture, Horticulture, Agriculture and allied sectors.

Dean Temperate Sericulture Research Institute (TSRI) Mirgund SKUAST Kashmir Prof Afifa Shaheen Kamili, In Charge Mountain Agriculture Research and Extension Station (MARES), SKUAST Kurbathang Kargil Dr Mushtaq Ahmad, In charge Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil Dr Sabiha Asmat, scientists of Sericulture Research Project Dr Buhroo Zafar Iqbal and Dr Khursheed Ahmad Dar besides other concerned officers were present on the occasion.

During the 4-day tour which is being organized by the Temperate Sericulture Research Institute (TSRI) Mirgund SKUAST Kashmir, the women farmers who are the trainees of the adopted villages of Shilikchey, Akchamal and Mangmore under the Expansion of Sericulture to Non-Traditional Areas programme will get exposure to various practical techniques particularly silk rearing, silk cocoon reeling and cloth manufacturing. The trainees will also be enlightened about the harvesting of apricot including the processing of jam, jellies and other food products obtained from apricot.

Speaking on the occasion, EC Agriculture appreciated the initiative of the College of Temperate Sericulture Mirgund SKUAST Kashmir and Mountain Agriculture Research and Extension Station Kurbathang Kargil for having organized the exposure tour for the women farmers.

The EC impressed upon the trainees to exude all out interest and enthusiasm for imbibing the technical inputs from the experts so that they can equip themselves with latest knowledge and technical know-how for increasing efficiency and productivity in sericulture, horticulture and agriculture.

In his address the Deputy Commissioner Kargil while congratulating the women framers for having been selected for the exposure tour said that they are fortunate to have got such a valuable opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills through which can contribute towards not only the economic betterment of their own but the farming community as a whole.
