Srinagar, June 28: A militant has been killed in the ongoing operation after a fierce gunfight broke out between militants and government forces at Gund Checkpora area of Kanipora, Nowgam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday morning.
Official sources said that one militant has been killed as his body has been recovered from the encounter site as the search operation is still underway. The identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained.
Earlier Reports said that a joint team of army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Gund Checkpora area of Kanipora, Nowgam late last night.
An officer said that as the joint team intensified searches at around 3:15 am, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate fire and hurled a grenade, the fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. (GNS)
