DLSA Shopian conducts awareness programmes, Lok Adalat

SHOPIAN, MAY 27: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian in coordination with Health Department of Shopian Monday conducted a major legal awareness programme at District Court Complex Shopian on the topics of Legal Awareness programme on Laws relating to Rights of Transgender Community and Senior Citizens and also Anti Tobacco Day.

On this occasion Chairman District Legal Services Authority Shopian Ashok Kumar Shavan addressed the gathering of Transgender Community and senior citizens and urged them to come forward and get benefits of the programmes.

Secretary DLSA and Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Shopian also addressed the gathering and highlighted the conditions under which people can apply for legal help and under what conditions legal services will be free and affordable.

The general public and the Advocates also hailed the steps taken for awareness of the general public by organizing such types of camps and programmes. The District Bar Members, SHO Police Station Shopian, Medical Officers from Health department had free medical camp on this occasion.

In the second session, a Lok Adalat was also held in the premises of District Court Complex Shopian under the Chairmanship of DLSA Shopian A K Shavan. In the Lok Adalat, 229 cases of different nature including Pre-litigation were taken up, out of which 174 cases were settled by mediation and reconciliation. An amount of Rs 75,728 was recovered as fine and same was deposited in Government Treasury. Rs 2, 30,000 were realized as recovery.

Bar member’s litigants, staff members, senior district officers of the District Administration and other prominent citizens attended the said Lok Adalat.
