Srinagar, May 19: Hurriyat-M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday said that the new political dispensation in India has to engage with the realities of Kashmir, its people and address the issue.

Addressing a seminar at Hurriyat-M headquarters in Rajbagh, Mirwaiz said that Hurriyat is ready to support all Indo-Pak efforts aimed at ending hostility and seeking a peaceful solution to Kashmir issue.

“Kashmir issue is a reality and the new dispensation in India has to engage with the reality of the Kashmir issue and address it,” Mirwaiz said.

Mirwaiz said that it was unfortunate that New Delhi has choked all means of peaceful protests, seminars and even pro-freedom leaders aren’t allowed to meet people.

“We are hopeful that the new political dispensation in India will do an introspection of the last five years’ policy with regard to Kashmir,” he said.

“We have held several rounds of dialogue with those in power in India and Pakistan in the past. Even today, if the leadership of both the countries make efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue through meaningful dialogue, the Hurriyat leadership is ready to fully support it,” Mirwaiz told the seminar.

Stating that the situation in Kashmir was “extremely painful”, Mirwaiz expressed hope that the “political leadership of India will understand that the Kashmir issue is a reality which cannot be resolved with military might”.
