Srinagar, May 10: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Friday said that the age-old practice of women carrying cow dung to the fields in baskets on their heads is degrading.

Taking the cognisance of the practice, the commission urged the government to come up with their views on the issue.

“The practice in degrading the womenfolk in particular and the humans in general,” the SHRC said in a handout.

It observed that the practice shouldn’t be allowed.

“Before hearing, interested individual/groups, the commission would like to know the opinion of the government and directed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to apprise the commission about the views of the government and general public so that final view is taken by the commission,” reads the handout.
