Rare wild animal marten caught in Kupwara

Kupwara:  A rare wild animal, yellow throated marten was found in a Kupwara village on Saturday by locals and handed over to wildlife officials.

Witnesses said that a yellow throated marten was found by the people in Awoora village of Kupwara on Saturday which created scare. A large number of people rushed to the spot and clicked pictures of the animal.

They said the animal was captured by local people and later handed over to the officials of Wildlife Department. Block Officer Wildlife department Kupwara Gulam Mohiudin said that they would release the animal into the forest after a medical checkup.

He said the animal was not dangerous for human or animal life and lives in northern parts of Indian forests. It forays into villages to eat rats, he said.
