Srinagar, Apr 16: A 37-year-old activist of Peoples Conference who was injured critically after he fell from a moving vehicle near Bakhihaker in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district last week succumbed to injuries in a hospital here in Srinagar.

Reports said that Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a resident of Bhawan Watser, Rajwar suddenly fell off from a load-carrier vehicle near Bakhihaker on April 09.

The mishap occurred when the load-carrier, part of the cavalcade, was heading towards Handwara to attend an election rally by PC chairman Sajad Gani Lone.

In the incident, Mir suffered critical injuries and was immediately taken to District Hospital Handwara in an unconscious state.

Mir was later referred to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar in critical condition. However, after battling for life for about seven days, he succumbed to injuries today morning.

A police officer also confirmed the death and said that a case stands registered and investigations are underway in this regard.

Meanwhile, Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone has expressed grief over the demise of party worker Mushtaq Ahmed Mir from Bowan, who was injured while on his way to the Handwara rally.

“Mushtaq Ahmed breathed his last. He was injured in our rally at Handwara. We salute you Mushtaq. I am sad and heartbroken. I wish I could make it up to you for all that you did for me and the party. But you are no more. May Allah grant u Jannat”, Sajad tweeted while condoling the loss.

Meanwhile, party General Secretary Imran Reza Ansari while expressing grief said, “I pray for peace to the soul of deceased and strength to the bereaved family to bear the loss”

Party senior leaders Abdul Gani Vakil, Bashir Ahmed Dar, Irfan Panditpori and other party functionaries also expressed condolences with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to departed soul.
