Noted pediatrician Dr Daljit Singh passes away

Srinagar, Apr 12: Noted pediatrician and neonatologist of Kashmir, Dr Daljit Singh passed away at a hospital in Jammu, Friday.

Dr Singh was operated 20 days back at Artemis Hospital Gurgaon for brain tumour and was shifted to Naryana Hospital Jammu where he breathed his last today at 11 am. He was 79.

“A medical luminary, Dr Daljit Singh had graduated from Indore Medical College and after completing his post-graduation joined GMC Srinagar where he went on to become the Professor of Pediatrics. He were instrumental in shaping the pediatric and particularly neonatal care services in Kashmir Valley.

A man of impeccable integrity, Dr Daljit Singh bade good-bye to government service when government banned private practice by the doctors working in various state hospitals. Thereafter, he concentrated solely on his private practice at his clinic in Hazuri Bagh area of Amirakadal in uptown Srinagar, where he would see scores of children on each day.

Born in Dardapora Kreeri area of Baramulla district, Dr Daljit Siingh had past several decades been residing in Jawaharnagar area of the city.

Meanwhile, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today held a condolence meeting at Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar to mourn his demise.

Paying rich tributes to the deceased, DAK described his death as a great loss to the medical fraternity here, saying his death has caused a great void in the field of medicine.

“His commitment to the welfare of people of the state was commendable. He rendered his services to the people of the state at a time when many doctors left them to fend for themselves,” DAK said.
