SUMBAL, April 09: A six-year-old kid athlete from north Kashmir’s Sumbal is all set to take part in the International Karate event to be held in Delhi.

Amaan Shokwat, son of Showkat Ahmad Sofi, of Sumbal Sonwari is studying in UKG at RJ’s International School Sumbal. He was selected for the International Karate event, to be held later in this month, after his brilliant performance in Karate Championship in Srinagar, where he won a bronze medal.

The Kid athlete told Kashmir Images that he has been undergoing Karate training at Ali’s Sports Academy Sumbal since last two years. “I was inspired to learn Karate after checking the pictures of children practicing Karate, which were stored on my father’s phone,” he said.

Father of Amaan, Showkat Ahmad – a bread-maker by profession, said: “After winning bronze in Srinagar, he was selected for state championship in Jammu and thereafter for 9th South Asian Hakuakai Karate championship 2019, which is scheduled from 27-28 April 2019 at International Indoor stadium Talkatora, New Delhi.”

The participants who will secure top spots in 9th South Asian Hakuakai Karate championship will be selected for world Hakuakai Karate Championships, to be held in August 2019 at Tokyo Japan.

The officials at Ali’s Sports Academy Sumbal told Kashmir Images that this year four players were selected for International Karate Championship 2019.  “The upcoming championship will provide the participants an opportunity to demonstrate their highest physical and mental development with foresting ideals and spirit of Karate along with friendship in the realm of sports,” they added.
