Jammu, Apr 02: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday filed a charge sheet against 17 people, including several government officials, in a six-year-old case of fraudulent distribution of over Rs 29 lakh land acquisition compensation in Udhampur district, an official said.

A case under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Ranbir Penal Code was registered in 2013 after investigation revealed that Rs 29,07,857 was fraudulently disbursed by the accused as compensation while depriving the genuine land holders during land acquisition for four-laning of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the official said.

The accused in the graft case, including the then Additional Deputy Commissioner and Collector (land acquisition) Nasir Iqbal Parray and the then Patwari, Nasir Iqbal Parray, were booked by the ACB’s Doda unit after obtaining the prosecution sanction from the competent authority, he said.

The other accused include the then Naib Tehsildar, Tikri-Udhampur, Gopal Singh and the then revenue officer, Madan Lal, the official said.

The case will be heard next on May 10, the official added.
